Despite the loss, Stanton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Luis Anaya rushed for 218 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 218 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Anaya. Vayden Pastrana also helped out with an impressive 83 receiving yards.
Stanton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jayden Hinojosa and Clayton Brown. Brown is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least seven every time he's taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Cornerstone Christian didn't have too much trouble with LBJ Austin on Thursday as they won 37-21.
Cornerstone Christian found their leader in sophomore Jaylen McKane, who rushed for 119 yards and one score, and also picked up 40 receiving yards and one TD. McKane showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 53 yards.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Cornerstone Christian proved: they limited LBJ Austin to a paltry 2.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Henry Guzman for the heroic effort on defense: he. Cornerstone Christian didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.8.
Cornerstone Christian's defense didn't let Jayelen House., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Ahzan Bacote was especially locked on to LBJ Austin's QB and sacked him twice. Cornerstone Christian got some further help from Guzman: he made ten total tackles (5.0 for loss).
Stanton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Cornerstone Christian, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Thursday's contest might be decided on the ground. Stanton has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 154.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Cornerstone Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 156.8 rushing yards.
