The Caldwell Bluejays had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past West Elk with points to spare, taking the game 58-41. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Caldwell has managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Caldwell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jackson Risley, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Risley is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mak Blosser, who scored 20 points along with four steals.
West Elk lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Uriah Tillapaugh, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Tillapaugh is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Martin Shipley was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Caldwell's win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for West Elk, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Caldwell will square off against Argonia at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Argonia is coming into the match with six straight victories at home, so Caldwell is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for West Elk, they will head out on the road to challenge Flinthills at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Elk is facing Flinthills at the right time seeing as Flinthills is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
