Baseball Recap: Hackberry Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Hackberry waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the South Cameron Tarpons 16-2. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mustangs also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

John Wesley Vincent and Devin Murphy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Vincent tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Murphy didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Vincent also tossed no walks, which is notable because Hackberry is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6 otherwise. At the plate, Vincent scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Murphy scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Murphy a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Lane Gray was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Poole, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Hackberry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .407 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Hackberry's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for South Cameron, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Looking ahead, South Cameron will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Starks at 5:00 p.m. Hackberry will be paying especially close attention to the Tarpons' contest: after the Tarpons faces off against the Panthers, they'll take on Hackberry again at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
