After flying high against the Taft Raiders last Saturday, the Sotomayor WILDCATS came back down to earth. Sotomayor took a serious blow against Brennan on Wednesday, falling 84-45. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sotomayor in their matchups with Brennan: they've now lost four in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Sotomayor lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elijah Hernandez. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points. Hernandez hasn't dropped below 16 points for three straight games. Olubunmi Odewole was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Brennan was led to victory by Camden Cowgill and Isaiah Ward. Cowgill scored 16 points along with three steals, while Ward scored 18 points along with six assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Donovan Criss, who scored 11 points.
Sotomayor dropped their record down to 15-16 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Brennan, the victory was the 20th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 26-4.
Sotomayor will head out on the road to take on O'Connor at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. O'Connor presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sotomayor in Texas (O'Connor is ranked 132nd, while Sotomayor is ranked 342nd). As for Brennan, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Holmes at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Brennan knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 24 games -- so hopefully Holmes likes a good challenge.
