Even though the Mathis Pirates have not done well against the Odem Owls recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Mathis walked away with a 42-34 victory over the Owls. This was payback for Mathis, who suffered a 38-36 loss the last time these two teams met.
Arik Cuellar had an outrageously good game as he dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Ashton Quesada was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Mathis now has a winning record of 14-13. As for Odem, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-16.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mathis will take on the Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. George West has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 5. As for Odem, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Goliad will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
