The Hobbs Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 63-52 to Highland. Hobbs found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up 13 fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the loss, Hobbs still got an impressive performance from Abraham Pe?a, who scored 27 points along with five steals. Another player making a difference was Josiah Clay, who scored nine points.
Jesus Licon was his usual excellent self, scoring 33 points along with nine rebounds and six steals for Highland. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Licon has scored at least a third of Highland's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isai Herrera, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds.
Hobbs bumped their record down to 4-9 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Highland, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hobbs on the road again on Wednesday and play against Manzano at 5:30 p.m. on January 10th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Donavan Rhodes and Pe?a. As for Highland, they will head out on the road to challenge Volcano Vista at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Volcano Vista has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 798 points over their last 12 matches.
