The Keller Indians came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Byron Nelson 53-34. Given Keller's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while Byron Nelson is ranked 135th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Keller was led to victory by Steven Ramirez and Brooks Bahr. Ramirez dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Bahr scored nine points along with nine assists and six rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Ramirez has scored at least 25% of Keller's points. Another player making a difference was Quinn Estep, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Keller has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Byron Nelson, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7.
Keller will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Highland Park at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Highland Park is on a three-game streak of home wins, Keller a ten-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Byron Nelson will finish 2023 at home by hosting Southwest at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Southwest is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
