The biggest upset of the week belonged to Clarksdale, who took down 76th ranked Clarksdale, 28-13. Jacob Marsh threw for 146 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 49 yards in the win.
Oxford extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 1 this week by beating Hernando, 31-0. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Chargers.
AJ Hunt was the best wideout in the league this week as Saltillo lost to West Point. Hunt tallied one reception for 80 yards. AJ Rye helped Saltillo's passing attack out by catching one ball for seven yards.
Tyler Tollison was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 92 yards on 16 carries as the Tigers fell to the Green Wave. Hunt also contributed to the rushing game with one yard on the ground.
Cole Mullins made the biggest impact on defense this week as Center Hill defeated the Wildcats. The 6-foot-1 defensive back pulled down two interceptions.
6-foot-5 quarterback Parker Adamson of Oxford is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1491. He has also thrown 11 touchdowns. On the ground, Saltillo's Andrew Soper has rushed for 753 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Hunt. The Saltillo star has 23 catches for 702 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Johnny Hill's team takes on Pat Byrd's team. The Chargers are in first place, while the Tigers are in third place.
There should be lots of points scored when Oxford and Saltillo face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Chargers comes in having scored 228 this season, while the Tigers have scored 220. Oxford scored 31 points last week as it bested the Tigers.
The Mustangs moved up to 80 from 109 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Center Hill was able to make the jump by defeating Clarksdale 28-13.
