Mathews has gone 9-1 against Chalker recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Mustangs will face off against the Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. Mathews' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Chalker's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Mathews made up a huge gap compared to their last game against LaBrae, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Mustangs fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 2-0 on Monday. The Mustangs' defeat signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, Chalker extended their postseason success on Saturday against St. John. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Fighting Herald. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.
Tatum Hudak made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Chalker let Morgan Strock and Riley Ashcraft run wild. Strock went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Ashcraft got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Strock has posted since back in April. Kelsey Kren was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Chalker was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .414 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Chalker is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Mathews, their loss dropped their record down to 24-5.
Mathews beat Chalker 4-0 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
