Baseball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Borden's Third in Last Four Outings

Borden had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Henryville on Thursday. The Braves never let the Hornets get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. Considering the Braves have won six matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Jayden Gardner, who gave up just five hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Henryville off the board. Gardner also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Borden is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Garrett Schmidt, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Michael McVoy, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Borden always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Henryville only posted an OBP of .286.

Borden is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Henryville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Borden will take on Scottsburg at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Braves' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Henryville, they will face off against South Central at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
