Clay has gone a perfect 10-0 against Lima Senior recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Eagles will welcome the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Clay has three straight wins, Lima Senior has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
While Clay's victory against Northview wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 24th.
Landon Eversman was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Darin Fussell, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Brannan Vargas, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Clay hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Ada hit Lima Senior with a five-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans fell 7-3 to the Bulldogs.
Lima Senior saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Wright, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Clay's victory bumped their record up to 16-9. As for Lima Senior, their loss dropped their record down to 6-19.
Everything went Clay's way against Lima Senior in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, as Clay made off with a 10-0 win. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
