Jose Chavez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because North Canyon is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-11 otherwise. Chavez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Johnny Huerta, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Hunter Dye was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
North Canyon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
As for Buckeye, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly two runs.
Like North Canyon, Buckeye also got a great game from a two-way player: Mayco Morales. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. What's more, Morales gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, David Castaneda was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs. Another player making a difference was Nate Bunger, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
