Handley had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-9 to make it six. They lost 14-3 to the Liberty Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Judges have suffered against the Eagles since April 28, 2022.
Handley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Otto, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
As for Liberty, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
On Liberty's side, Jairo Contreras Leon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Contreras Leon was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
In other pitching news, Brayden Wren looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.
Back at the plate, Tyson Schrum was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Christopher Laws, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Handley will venture away from home to challenge Brentsville District at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Liberty, they will challenge Eastern View at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.9, the Cyclones 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
