The Sherman Bearcats will head out on the road to face off against the Wakeland Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Sherman has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Wakeland will arrive with three straight victories.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 41-10, which was the final score in Sherman's tilt against Lone Star on Friday. While losing is never fun, Sherman can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 542nd, while Lone Star is ranked 76th).
Meanwhile, Wakeland didn't have too much trouble with Lebanon Trail on the road last Thursday as they won 28-14.
Sherman's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Reedy and 6-2 Heritage (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 81.6% over those games). As for Wakeland, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Sherman didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Wakeland when the teams last played back in October of 2022, but they still walked away with a 33-28 win. Will Sherman repeat their success, or does Wakeland have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
