Two dominant guards in Ashlyn Riley and Sophie Nichols are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Lincoln Cougars will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Ripley Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Lincoln will be strutting in after a win while Ripley will be coming in after a loss.
Even though Bridgeport scored an imposing 56 points on Thursday, Lincoln still came out on top. Lincoln took down Bridgeport 71-56.
Riley was her usual excellent self, scoring 30 points along with six assists and five steals. Riley is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sadie Adams, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Ripley came up short against Logan on Thursday and fell 44-37. Ripley has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Abigail Eastman, who scored eight points. Another player making a difference was Erin Ryan, who scored 15 points.
Lincoln's win bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Ripley, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Lincoln have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Ripley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Lincoln might still be hurting after the 62-41 loss they got from Ripley in their previous matchup two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Nichols, who scored 38 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Now that Lincoln knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
