The Lovington Wildcats can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent game on Tuesday. They blew past Goddard, posting a 69-34 win at home. That's another feather in the cap for Lovington, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Lovington found their leader in underclassman Malaiya Castro, who scored 28 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Castro has scored all season. Elizabeth Buendia was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with five assists and two steals.
Goddard lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Carmen Grado, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Addycen Luck, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Even though they lost, Goddard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lovington only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Lovington's victory bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Goddard, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-14.
Lovington will be playing in front of their home fans against Portales at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in New Mexico (Portales is ranked 14th, while Lovington is ranked 28th). As for Goddard, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Artesia at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Goddard focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Tuesday.
