4A Region I District 2 recap September 10, 2013
Parkland's RAMON RENTERIA recorded the longest rushing play in 4A Region I District 2 this season in his game against Fabens last week. RENTERIA ran for 78 yards on the play and finished with 207 on the day as his team topped the Wildcats.
Joseph Fresquez and Erik Camacho provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Eastwood. The connection was good for 98 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
Horizon's dynamic duo of Fresquez and Camacho proved to be unstoppable against the Troopers, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Fresquez threw for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns and Camacho had 171 yards receiving. Paul Quintero helped Horizon's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 22 yards.
The Scorpions' dynamic duo of Fresquez and Camacho proved tough for Eastwood to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Fresquez put up the best numbers through the air as Horizon fell to the Troopers.
RENTERIA was the most successful running back in the league this week. Teammate ANTHONY DUDLEY added to the ground attack by rushing for 72 yards.
Camacho was the best receiver in 4A Region I District 2 this week as David Telas' team lost to Eastwood.
He was 10-20 with 1 interceptions.
DAVID ARMENDARIZ was a passing and rushing force as Eastlake lost to Andress. He completed 15 passes for 190 yards and also ran for 131 yards. ARMENDARIZ's key target this week was ADRIAN PINEDO, who caught 5 passes for 90 yards.
The Scorpions' Fresquez and Camacho have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Fresquez has thrown for 391 yards this season, while Camacho has 8 catches for 221 yards. Parkland's RENTERIA leads the league in rushing yards with 254.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Parkland takes on second place Ysleta. Jerry Walker's team beat Fabens last week, while Ysleta bested Bel Air.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Indians take on the Matadors. Ysleta has allowed 31 points this season, while Parkland has given up 25. Ruben Torres' team allowed 3 points last week as it defeated the Highlanders.
The Indians were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. Earlier in the week, Ysleta triumphed over Bel Air 8-3.
