The Crystal City Javelinas came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Lytle by a score of 72-62. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Crystal City's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dakota Rivera, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rivera has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Mena, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Lytle's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zacharee Perez, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Perez hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. Seth Pierce was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with eight rebounds.
Lytle struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Crystal City racked up 23 assists.
Crystal City is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-11 record this season. As for Lytle, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-6.
Crystal City will take on Dilley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Dilley is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak. As for Lytle, they will head out on the road to square off against Natalia at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Natalia's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups.
