The Meadows School Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon Pirate at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for The Meadows School and 13 for Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon.
The Meadows School lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Monday was a bit more commanding. They suffered a tough 51-28 loss at the hands of Pahrump Valley. While losing is never fun, The Meadows School can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Pahrump Valley is ranked ninth).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Tessa Lalanne, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Kate Verdirame, who scored six points along with two steals.
The Meadows School struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Pahrump Valley racked up 18 assists.
Meanwhile, Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon was beaten by Boulder City 53-18 on Monday. Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon has not had much luck with Boulder City recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Jiselle Garin was Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon's leading scorer, having posted ten points.
Allayjah Flowers held things down on the boards with 12 rebounds.
The Meadows School has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon, they dropped their record down to 1-18 with that loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Wednesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: The Meadows School have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon, though, as they've been averaging only 13.6 rebounds per game. Given The Meadows School's sizable advantage in that area, Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for The Meadows School against Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 57-18 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for The Meadows School since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
