The Holy Cross Lancers were the 73-71 winner over Doane Academy when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. Holy Cross fell just short of Doane Academy by a score of 54-51. Holy Cross' loss keeps them winless this season.
Holy Cross' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emmanuel Doku, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Samir Wellington, who scored 20 points along with seven assists.
Doane Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nick Fusco out in front who scored 21 points. Vaughn Hoagland was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Holy Cross' loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Doane Academy, their victory ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-0.
Holy Cross will be home for the holidays to greet Northern Burlington at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Doane Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Pemberton at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
