Despite the defeat, Mannford had strong showings from Brayden Rodriguez, who rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and Luke Naylor, who rushed for 109 yards and one TD on only 15 carries. Naylor's longest rush was for an impressive 61 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Jj Hindsman helped out on the ground, rushing for 102 yards.
Meanwhile, Sulphur put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 59-0 victory over Victory Christian. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Conquerors are ranked 148th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sulphur's win came from a few key players Mannford will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kale Brakefield, who threw for 255 yards and four TDs while completing 92.9% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (171.1). Maddax Mobly was Brakefield's top target, picking up 27 receiving yards.
Sulphur didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Mavric Lowrance and Bridge Barrett.
Mannford's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Sulphur, their win bumped their record up to 9-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Mannford has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 342.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sulphur struggles in that department as they've been averaging 189.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Mannford was taken down by Sulphur 59-0 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mobly, who rushed for 100 yards and four scores on only ten carries. Now that the Pirates know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
