Baseball Game Preview: Northside - Pinetown Panthers vs. Pamlico County Hurricanes

The Northside - Pinetown Panthers will face off against the Pamlico County Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Thursday, Northside - Pinetown had just enough and edged out Southside 3-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Ashton Willard was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Northside - Pinetown is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 0-6 otherwise. Willard was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Northside - Pinetown got a great performance from Blake Wainwright as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Wainwright also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Northside - Pinetown is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-6 otherwise.

Willard wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Memphis Keech, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pamlico County). They put the hurt on Lejeune with a sharp 16-1 victory on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Pamlico County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. Northside - Pinetown picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 3-7.

Northside - Pinetown skirted past Pamlico County 4-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Does Northside - Pinetown have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pamlico County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
