Baseball Recap: Cornersville Takes a Loss

Cornersville fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Culleoka on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 5-4 to the Warriors, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Bulldogs' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it six in a row.

Colyn Schillig made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Courtemanche, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Schillig wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Cornersville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for Cornersville: they were averaging 4.7 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 8.8.

Cornersville's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Culleoka, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-6.

Cornersville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 17-0 loss against Forrest on the 28th. As for Culleoka, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-4 defeat against Collinwood on the 27th.
