Basketball Game Preview: Centennial Stars vs. East Tigers

Centennial has gone 8-2 against East recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Centennial Stars will be playing at home against the East Tigers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Centennial has nine straight victories, East has ten straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Centennial saw some tournament action on Saturday. They secured a 69-64 W over Lincoln.

Centennial found their leader in sophomore Kennedy Houston, who went 14 for 26 on her way to 42 points and three steals. Houston has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last 33 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aza Corbett, who posted eight points and 14 rebounds.

Centennial smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 33 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when East faced off against Columbus International on Friday. East took a blow against Columbus International, falling 75-47. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-24.

Centennial's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-1. As for East, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.

Everything came up roses for Centennial against East in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 71-27 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was East's Kaliyah Barron, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 24 boards. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Centennial still be able to contain Barron? There's only one way to find out.
