4A Region I District 8 recap October 22, 2013
Burleson moved up to 527 from 620 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region I District 8. The Elks were able to move up by topping Crowley 34-21.
Waco took down University 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Traynham Moore threw for 134 yards and 4 touchdowns during the win.
Matt Marner provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Eagles lost to Burleson. He completed 5 passes for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 75 yards. Marner's favorite target this week was Adam Aguirre, who caught 4 passes for 93 yards.
He went 8-13 with 1 interception.
Moore put up the best numbers in passing as the Lions defeated the Trojans. Moore's favorite target this week was Tyler Taylor, who caught 4 passes for 87 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Marner of Crowley is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,127. He has also thrown 15 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Taylor. The Waco star has 29 catches for 649 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Chris James' team takes on Cleburne. The Eagles' offense has recorded 265 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Yellowjackets have permitted only 156 on the year.
Crowley's Day'Lonzo Freeman is a mere 40 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 135 carries Freeman has put up 960 yards this year.
The Eagles are currently in first, while Jeff Merket's team is in third.
