Commerce is 0-4 against Elbert County since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Both teams will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Commerce will be strutting in after a victory while Elbert County will be coming in after a defeat.
Even though Commerce has not done well against Tallulah Falls recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Commerce came out on top against Tallulah Falls by a score of 45-35.
Commerce's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Malay L miitchell, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds, and Jada Palumbo, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Palumbo hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayah vann, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Elbert County came up short against Oglethorpe County on Saturday and fell 58-48. While losing is never fun, Elbert County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 260th, while Oglethorpe County is ranked 36th).
Commerce has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Elbert County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11.
Commerce might still be hurting after the 59-33 defeat they got from Elbert County when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Commerce avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
