The Vardaman Rams were the 53-39 winner over the Smithville Seminoles when they last played one another on January 5th, but their luck changed this time around. Vardaman took a 51-33 bruising from Smithville on Thursday. Vardaman has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Smithville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mikayla Wall led the charge by scoring 20 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wall has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Halle Sargent, who scored 11 points along with six blocks and five rebounds.
Vardaman's loss dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Smithville, their victory bumped their record up to 7-15.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vardaman will challenge Thrasher at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Smithville, they will head out on the road to take on West Lowndes at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (West Lowndes is ranked 278th, while Smithville is ranked 256th).
