The Highland Prep Honey Badgers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 45 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 69-16 victory over Mountainside on the road. Given Highland Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Mountainside is ranked 286th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tarrell Green was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Kohen Hill, who scored nine points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Highland Prep's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points per game. As for Mountainside, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.
Highland Prep will be home for the holidays to greet Tonopah Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountainside will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Phoenix Preparatory Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
