Basketball Recap: Springport Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

Springport hadn't done well against Concord recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Springport Spartans snuck past the Concord Yellowjackets with a 55-49 victory. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 384th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Springport to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gibson Overweg, who posted six points and 12 rebounds. That's the most boards Overweg has posted since back in December of 2023. Marshall Shoemaker was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Springport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Concord still got an impressive performance from Connor Stevens, who went 5 for 10 en route to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jett Smith, who scored 13 points.

Springport's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. As for Concord, they now have a losing record at 6-7.

Springport wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 48-46 loss against Quincy on the 16th. As for Concord, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-47 victory against Union City on the 16th.
