The Early Longhorns will face off against Compass Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Early strolled past San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy with points to spare, taking the game 35-21. The win was just what Early needed coming off of a 50-6 loss in their prior game.
Griffin Cheslock went supernova for Early, rushing for 217 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Rohyn Price, who threw for 160 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, while Compass Academy put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Tornillo. Compass Academy blew past Tornillo 42-0 on the road. The victory was just what Compass Academy needed coming off of a 41-7 defeat in their prior contest.
Braxton Morris and Christian Davalos were among the main playmakers for Compass Academy as the former gained 160 total yards and the latter rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries. Davalos was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 63 yards. Another player making a difference was Ryan Farris, who gained 25 total yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Early to 5-5 and Compass Academy to 4-6.
Everything came up roses for Early against Compass Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 62-0 victory. Will Early repeat their success, or does Compass Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
