Baseball Recap: Woodland Starts Season with Win Against Foyil

Woodland took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They never let the Foyil Panthers get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won five in a row.

Tryp Neff and Landon Presson made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Neff struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Presson pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave Neff a new career-high in strikeouts. At the plate, Neff went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Presson scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Woodland let Trey Bennett and Patrick Freeman run wild. Bennett scored two runs and stole six bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Freeman scored two runs and stole six bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those six stolen bases gave Freeman a new career-high.

Coming up, Woodland will challenge Drummond at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Foyil, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Bluejacket at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
