Poly has gone 8-1 against Paloma Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Bears will look to defend their home field against the Wildcats at 3:45 p.m. Poly's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Paloma Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Poly took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Hemet. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Marley Audoma spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Poly got a massive performance out of Katelyn Cortez, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs Cortez has posted since back in March of 2024. Honesty Romero was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Poly hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Paloma Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Valley View.
Paloma Valley also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kaydence Koepsell gave up just two earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Paloma Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Alarcon, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Poly has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Paloma Valley, they now have a losing record of 10-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Poly hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Paloma Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Poly took their victory against Paloma Valley when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 16-1 score. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
