Trinity Prep has gone 9-1 against Lake Highland Prep recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Saints will face off against the Highlanders at 6:00 p.m. The last three games Trinity Prep has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Last Wednesday, Trinity Prep didn't have quite enough to beat Master's Academy and fell 3-2. The Saints have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Trinity Prep saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Stillman, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Braden Henderson was another, scoring a run and stealing three bases.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Lake Highland Prep walked away with it. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Panthers a 15-0 shutout on Monday. The Highlanders haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Hayden Mackle looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Lake Highland Prep's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 5-2 (and 7-12 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, Landon Towns and Manny Socarras did most of the damage at the plate: Towns went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Socarras scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Towns has become a key player for Lake Highland Prep: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 9-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Reilly Diebel, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Lake Highland Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Trinity Prep's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-6. As for Lake Highland Prep, their win bumped their record up to 12-14.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Trinity Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lake Highland Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Trinity Prep skirted past Lake Highland Prep 7-6 when the teams last played on Tuesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saints since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
