Gian Luigi Ospina made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of ABF Academy's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 3-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Ospina was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other pitching news, ABF Academy got a great performance from Ariel Rivera as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Rivera has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jose Perozo, who scored a run and stole four bases while going 1-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Kevin Bravo was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Flanagan didn't have quite enough to beat King's Academy on Tuesday and fell 5-4. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ethan Cabrera was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in February.
On the hitting side, Carter Roberts made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run.
ABF Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. Flanagan's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14.
ABF Academy's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. ABF Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Flanagan, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will ABF Academy continue to outrun the ball?
