Post and New Deal are an even 4-4 against one another since November of 2017, but not for long. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Friday, Post was just a hair shy of victory and fell 25-24 to Farwell. The matchup marked the Antelopes' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Despite their defeat, Post saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Draven Gonzales, who picked up 78 receiving yards and two scores, was perhaps the best of all. Another passer making a difference was Josh Segura, who threw for 183 yards and three TDs.
Meanwhile, New Deal fell victim to Lubbock Christian and their airtight defense last Friday. They took a blow against the Eagles, falling 43-0. Having soared to a lofty 41 points in the game before, the Lions' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Even if they lost, New Deal's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Dalton Martin was especially locked on to Lubbock Christian's QB and sacked him twice. Martin is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least nine every time he's taken the field this season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Post fell to 4-1. As for New Deal, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Post has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 352.2 total yards per game. It's a different story for New Deal, though, as they've been averaging only 197.8 total yards. Will Post be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Lions flip the script?
Everything came up roses for Post against New Deal when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 61-20 victory. Do the Antelopes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
