Basketball Recap: Center Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Andy Mclear and Tima Makovey

Center was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against the Lincoln Fighting Zebras, falling 87-61. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 801st, while the Fighting Zebras are ranked 332nd).

Center's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Tima Makovey, who posted 21 points and three steals, and Andy McLear, who had 19 points. McLear has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dylan Waggoner, who scored eight points and six assists.

Lincoln found their leader in freshman Mason Volzer, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Volzer has scored all season. Chris Nisi also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Center's loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Lincoln, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Center will welcome Wheatland at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Center is facing Wheatland at the right time seeing as Wheatland is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Lincoln, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Oakmont at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lincoln will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
