The South El Monte Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Rosemead Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. South El Monte will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
On Monday, South El Monte needed a bit of extra time to put away Marshall. They had just enough and edged out Marshall 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win South El Monte has posted since May 14, 2024.
Christian Ortega made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Armando Huizar, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Julian Renteria also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rosemead). Everything went their way against El Monte on Monday as they made off with a 10-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won four in a row.
Camren Mancha looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
On the hitting side, Sebastian Genie was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Logan Mojica, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
South El Monte's record now sits at 12-5. As for Rosemead, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-10.
