The Northgate Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Harris County Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Northgate sitting on three straight wins and Harris County on six.
Last Friday, Northgate had just enough and edged Northside out 31-28.
Evan Garrett was his usual excellent self, rushing for 248 yards. Garrett is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Northgate also got a significant boost from Dylan Barber, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 96 yards.
Harris County had a rough season last year, but they looks ready to turn that poor record around this year. Everything went their way against Northside two weeks ago as Harris County made off with a 27-7 win. The result was nothing new for Harris County, who have now won three contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
Harris County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mataye Youman, who rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown. Levi Watson also helped out as he racked up 105 rushing yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Northside to a paltry 146 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Harris County's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Joshua Jones and his two sacks.
Their wins bumped Northgate to 6-2 and Harris County to 6-1.
Everything went Northgate's way against Harris County in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as Northgate made off with a 28-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northgate since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
