After a string of three wins, the Phillips Wildcats's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a hard 74-55 fall against DeKalb. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Phillips had strong showings from Amari Edwards, who scored 18 points, and Claude Mpouma, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that Mpouma scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Ian Williams, who scored four points.
Phillips' defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for DeKalb, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Phillips and Englewood Stem will face off at 4:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Englewood Stem is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. DeKalb and Naperville Central will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Naperville Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while DeKalb is ranked 86th).
