The Huntington Highlanders scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They strolled past Spring Valley with points to spare, taking the game 94-76. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
It was another big night for Mikey Johnson, who scored 26 points along with nine assists and seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that he posted eight or more assists. Jayden Clark was another key contributor, scoring 27 points.
Spring Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Clay Robertson, who scored 25 points along with four blocks and two steals. That's the first time this season that Robertson posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Tate Adkins, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Even though they lost, Spring Valley were working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Huntington has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for Spring Valley, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Huntington will face off against Capital at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Spring Valley, they will head out on the road to square off against St. Albans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (St. Albans is ranked 22nd, while Spring Valley is ranked 27th).
