Basketball Game Preview: East Lake Eagles vs. Tarpon Springs Spongers

East Lake is 9-1 against Tarpon Springs since January of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The East Lake Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tarpon Springs Spongers at 8:00 p.m. The timing is sure in East Lake's favor as the squad sits on 19 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Tarpon Springs has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.

East Lake is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing River Ridge: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that East Lake blew River Ridge out of the water with a 73-30 final score. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 20 points or more this season.

Jeremiah Cooper was his usual excellent self, going 12 for 20 on his way to 32 points and five steals. His evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Bryant, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards.

East Lake was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as River Ridge only racked up four assists.

Meanwhile, Tarpon Springs played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 75-47 loss at the hands of Palm Harbor University. The Spongers were down 52-29 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

East Lake's win bumped their record up to 16-5. As for Tarpon Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-15.

Everything came up roses for East Lake against Tarpon Springs in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 69-28 victory. In that game, East Lake amassed a halftime lead of 51-15, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Wednesday.
