North East dropped their record down to 8-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Havre de Grace Warriors by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Indians have suffered since March 28th.
Jazmyn Martin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, North East saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Victoria McGee, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Havre de Grace, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.
On Havre de Grace's side, Lilly Dalton was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off 12 hits. Dalton was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Havre de Grace got a big performance out of Jalynn Ludd, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kinsey Mentzer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. North East is set to challenge their familiar foe Harford Tech at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Havre de Grace will face off against rival Bohemia Manor at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 3.8, the Eagles 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
