Thomara Drummer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Everett, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
Meanwhile, Sonoma Valley came up short against Petaluma on Friday, falling 9-3. The loss continues a trend for the Dragons in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost five in a row.
Sonoma Valley saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Rhodd, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Rhodd's first of the season.
Sonoma Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for San Rafael, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Sonoma Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. San Rafael has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Sonoma Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will San Rafael keep running through batters, or will the Dragons buck the trend?
San Rafael was able to grind out a solid win over Sonoma Valley when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
