Basketball Recap: Deer Comes Up Short

Deer lost against Jasper back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Deer Antlers had to suffer through a 86-55 loss at the hands of the Jasper Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Antlers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arkansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Pirates are ranked 60th).

Several Antlers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mason Guinnip, who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds. Guinnip is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Moore, who posted 15 points.

Deer has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Jasper, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-4.

Deer didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 76-62 loss against Kingston on the 17th. As for Jasper, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 79-53 victory against Founders Classical Academy on the 17th.
