Softball Recap: Mountain View Makes It Three in a Row on the Road

Mountain View had won three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they bumped their record up to 7-8 to make it four. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Milpitas Trojans. The game was the first time the Spartans have beaten the Trojans on their field since May 18, 2021.

Allison Marcelino spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mountain View's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Anika Upadhyay, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Upadhyay has brought in this season. Another was Kasey Spaulding, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

Mountain View hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Milpitas struck out 16 times.

As for Milpitas, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10. Trojans fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against Mountain View since on Tuesday.

On Milpitas' side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Marissa Gil gave up three earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits.

On the hitting side, Chloe Cabrera was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.

Looking ahead, Mountain View will square off against Wilcox at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Chargers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.95 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Milpitas, they will face off against Los Altos at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
