The Legacy Tigers will take on the Garfield Bulldogs at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Legacy sitting on nine straight wins and Garfield on seven.
Legacy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand San Fernando a 4-0 shutout.
The result came thanks to Savannah Medina's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Legacy let Katelen Pedroza and Brianna Gonzalez run wild. Pedroza went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Gonzalez went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Garfield posted their closest victory since April 2nd on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Chatsworth.
Nadia Carrillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Jade Ortega and Rosalie Aguilera did most of the damage at the plate: Ortega went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while Aguilera went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Ortega has posted since back in March. Clara Villalpando was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Garfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .353 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Garfield pushed their record up to 17-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Legacy, their victory bumped their record up to 22-7.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Legacy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. However, it's not like Garfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .485. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Legacy took their win against Garfield in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
