The Doherty Spartans gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They walked away with a 62-50 victory over Grandview. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Doherty also won the last time the pair played back in February.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Doherty to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elijah Mack, who scored 12 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals. James Pulliam was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with 6 rebounds.
Grandview's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was George Durbin, who scored 10 points along with 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Thomas, who scored 11 points.
Doherty's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Grandview, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Doherty will be playing in front of their home fans against Legend at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Legend focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday. As for Grandview, they will face off against Chatfield at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
