The Mesquite Wildcats will take on the Vista Grande Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mesquite is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Mesquite took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Arcadia by a score of 7-3.
Cooper Joslin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jensen Jones and Jacob Hogan did most of the damage at the plate: Jones scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Hogan scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Kash Rogers, who scored a run and stole two bases.
Meanwhile, Vista Grande can bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Maricopa with a sharp 10-4 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Spartans considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Eltorna Gant III was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs while going 4-for-5. He has become a key player for Vista Grande: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-10-1 otherwise.
In other batting news, Nicholas Valdez was incredible, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Ruben Baca was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
Vista Grande always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory got Vista Grande back to even at 10-10-1. As for Mesquite, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.
Mesquite couldn't quite finish off Vista Grande in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 and fell 3-1. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
