The Cheverus Stags will square off against the Bonny Eagle Scots at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Bonny Eagle will be up against a hot Cheverus team: the squad just extended their winning streak to nine. The Stags never let Marshwood get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory on Thursday.
Addison DeRoche made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hailey Lamontagne, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.
Cheverus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .548 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bonny Eagle). They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over Falmouth on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Scots in their matchups with the Navigators: they've now won seven in a row.
Like Cheverus, Bonny Eagle also got a great game from a two-way player: Bella Hanson. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hanson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Bonny Eagle got a massive performance out of Leah Storey, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Reese Bryant, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Cheverus' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 13.7 runs thus far. As for Bonny Eagle, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cheverus hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .491. However, it's not like Bonny Eagle struggles in that department as they've averaged .349. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cheverus was able to grind out a solid victory over Bonny Eagle when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 7-3. Will the Stags repeat their success, or do the Scots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
