Basketball Recap: George Washington Falls Despite Big Games from Jordan Dotson and Malachi Headrick

George Washington was the 63-60 winner over Denver East when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The George Washington Patriots fell just short of the Denver East Angels by a score of 62-59 on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (58), the Patriots still had to take the loss.

Malachi Headrick and Jordan Dotson certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Headrick went 8 for 14 on his way to 20 points and seven boards, while Dotson dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. That's the most boards Dotson has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Young, who posted seven points and three steals.

Denver East's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but JAMES MURRAY led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. MURRAY is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was FABIAN MORRIS, who went 7 of 11 en route to 17 points and six rebounds.

With the loss, George Washington broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-3. As for Denver East, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-5.

George Washington didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 78-73 defeat against Northfield on the 17th. As for Denver East, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 66-63 loss against Dakota Ridge on the 15th.
